Canon holds talks with key semiconductor projects, plans tech centres in India: CEO
Canon is in talks with key semiconductor projects in India as part of the country’s India Semiconductor Mission, with nearly 12 projects approved to build a domestic semiconductor ecosystem across chip fabrication, assembly and testing. Canon’s India President and CEO, Toshiaki Nomura, said the Japanese imaging and optics company has discussed with manufacturers already developing initiatives and plans to bring its lithography technology and related service centres to India. He described a “great opportunity” as India pushes to establish homegrown chip fabrication capabilities, and said Canon expects to provide 24x7 support once projects are confirmed. Nomura expressed confidence in India’s ecosystem-building efforts, while noting timelines depend on chipmakers.
