Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher slams Illinois Democrats as team prepares to leave state
Urlacher's critique centers on the Bears' potential departure from Soldier Field and the political decisions he believes paved the way for relocation to Hammond, Indiana. The Hall of Famer told Fox News Digital that he cannot picture the team playing anywhere else and urged Illinois leaders to act. He cited the state's failure to pass legislation providing property tax certainty and public infrastructure funding the Bears said it needed. Urlacher also noted Illinois sanctuary policies, arguing the state has spent roughly $2.5 to $3.2 billion on services for migrants from 2022 through 2025, money he says could have supported the Bears.
Urlacher said the Bears have explored options beyond Soldier Field, including Arlington Heights, where land has already been purchased, and even a potential cross-state move. He condemned Governor Pritzker and other officials for not safeguarding the franchise, while acknowledging the move could make financial sense for the organization. He asked what leadership is doing to keep the team in Illinois, emphasizing the loyalty of Bears fans and the historical value of Soldier Field. The former linebacker insisted a practical compromise should keep the team in state, if not at the traditional venue, rather than allowing discussion of an exit to go unanswered.
