Could Bring the Most Mind-Bendingly Expensive Apple Product of All Time
Apple’s next flagship Mac roadmap is being reshaped by claims that AI will drive both the timing and design of upcoming chips. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says Apple is planning to skip expected M6 variants and accelerate M7 production, despite M6 products not yet existing. He adds that the M6 generation is effectively already obsolete in Apple’s view, with the new Ultra desktop range targeted for 2028. Gurman links the shift to AI becoming a core determinant of product development and launch schedules rather than a secondary feature. The M7 Ultra is said to be designed to support up to 1.5TB of memory, amid ongoing memory-chip shortages that could raise costs. The report cites Apple’s recent Mac Studio price increases, including a base model rising to $2,500 and a 96GB model to $5,299.
