Cranston first-degree murder suspect makes first court appearance as details unveiled

Anna Maria Angelosanto, a 62-year-old woman from Cranston, Rhode Island, made her first court appearance Tuesday after being charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, 21-year-old Alexandria Straccia. Prosecutors allege Angelosanto killed Straccia on July 27 and then attempted suicide. Cranston Police say Straccia had severe autism and depended fully on her mother for care. Investigators say Angelosanto told family in a suicide note she believed she and her daughter were a “burden,” and provided instructions for what should happen after their deaths. Police also cited financial trouble, including being unable to pay rent.
