Cyber Experts Urge White House To Reverse Ban On Anthropic's Fable Model

Cyber experts are urging the White House to reverse its ban on Anthropic's Fable model, arguing the restriction weakens national cyber defense by limiting access to vulnerability research. The directive, issued late last week, barred foreign nationals from using Fable and forced Anthropic to disable it for all users. Fable is Mythos with guardrails, and authorities cited reported jailbreaks as a concern. Nearly 150 cybersecurity experts co-signed an open letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and national cyber director Sean Cairncross, urging reconsideration and arguing the ban benefits criminals. The letter, sent to the White House, warns that Fable bans could hinder defenders as open-weight models near Mythos-level capabilities within six months.
