Deadliest Catch" Star Sig Hansen Says He Was 'Humbled' When Donald Trump Fired Him on "Celebrity Apprentice
Sig Hansen's Oval Office appearance linked a fisherman's story to a policy shift on Pacific waters. Deadliest Catch star Hansen attended the June 11 signing ceremony where President Trump opened nearly half a million square miles of Pacific waters to commercial fishing. Hansen thanked Trump for his support and presented a crew hat, telling him, You’re one of us now. He recalled his time on Celebrity Apprentice and said the firing humbled him and made him a better captain. The proclamation rolls back earlier protections in the Islands Unit of Mariana Trench, and in the Mau and Ho’omalu zones of Papahānaumokuākea, plus the Rose Atoll Monument, as part of a broader push to boost U.S. seafood access. Last year, Trump opened similar waters in the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument to fishing.
