Diesel drivers in the UK are facing fuel-cost increases measured at 19p per mile as prices remain pressured by the Iran war. On January 2, the average diesel pump price was 144.18p per litre, equivalent to 15p per mile. By July, diesel rose to 178.97p per litre, pushing the cost to about 19p per mile, a 4p increase. The RAC said the situation follows concerns that wholesale price cuts were not quickly reflected at the pumps, despite historically high fuel margins and limited competition. RAC policy chief Simon Williams said the Competition and Markets Authority will look more closely at retailer pricing strategies, and urged comparison with Northern Ireland where petrol and diesel sell at about 8p less per litre. The RAC also noted crude oil falling from above $100 to around $80, which it says should ease forecourt savings expectations.
