Digital Ministry pushes AI nation goal under Budget 2027
The Digital Ministry said it is pushing Malaysia’s “AI Nation” goal for 2030 through measures under Budget 2027 announced Oct 11. It aims to strengthen the digital ecosystem, boost local tech talent, and build a workforce ready for future roles. The ministry highlighted plans to produce 200,000 AI-skilled individuals by expanding AI Malaysia Bhd, alongside improved digital infrastructure and AI governance covering security and ethics. Budget 2027 also directs MDEC funding to help 4,000 micro, small and medium enterprises adopt AI and automate operations, and to train and certify 5,000 AI professionals. The DE Rantau Nomad Pass extension will keep existing holders working remotely in Malaysia for two more years, while digitalisation will expand to more than 300 pondok schools with devices and training. Additional steps include 100,000 free subscriptions to AI apps such as ChatGPT and free access to over 16,000 courses and professional certificates via the Digital Rakyat Platform with Coursera.
