Dirty Dawgs to keep selling hot dogs as street vendor change approved - Now Georgia
Downtown Athens residents will be able to keep buying hot dogs on Saturday nights after the Athens-Clarke County commission unanimously approved an updated street sale ordinance Tuesday night, 10-0. The revised rules allow long-tenured vendors who have operated near the newly renovated College Square to continue selling, but the commission will not issue new permits for on-site cooking or on-site food and beverage preparation within College Square. One of the affected vendors is Lin King of Dirty Dawgs, who has sold hot dogs downtown for more than 20 years. The Athens Downtown Development Authority backed the amendment, citing concerns about grease being improperly discarded on sidewalks, and the wording was revised with input from District 10 commissioner Mike Hamby.
