Everything From Virginia Tech's James Franklin At 2026 ACC Kickoff

Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin spoke Thursday, July 16, at the ACC Kickoff at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, addressing his program’s offseason direction and expectations for the upcoming season. Franklin thanked President Tim Sands for his support since Virginia Tech arrived in Blacksburg and referenced the team’s new athletic director, Brian White, whom he said attendees will get to know. He also credited the staff’s work implementing standards, expectations, and culture, describing their preparation as a “sprint.” Franklin highlighted that the program has hired defensive coordinator Brent Pry, calling the decision valuable for institutional and community knowledge. He said Virginia Tech is “bigger, stronger, and faster” and believes depth will enable competition. He added that success must translate to on-field play in a style aimed at making former leaders, including Frank Beamer and Bud Foster, proud, while also noting alumni involvement such as Eddie Royal.
