FBI agent homes, job titles in data hackers claim to have stolen

A trove of data that hackers say they stole from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation includes highly sensitive information, including home addresses of FBI employees working on investigations tied to foreign spies, drug cartels, and covert surveillance. The FBI has not explicitly confirmed a breach, but said it is “actively and aggressively” investigating the “point of breach” and whether a third party or the FBI’s enterprise system was involved. A cybercrime gang claimed responsibility and provided journalists with what it described as a sample. Bloomberg News reported the data covered at least 3,800 current or former FBI employees, including phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, job titles, assigned field offices, and emergency contacts. Some employees had not been notified as of Thursday, according to a U.S. official.
