Federal Appeals Court Rejects Bid to Block Trump's Mail Voting Restrictions

A federal appeals court on July 28 rejected Democrats’ bid to block President Donald Trump’s mail voting restrictions, though judges indicated they could rule differently later. The panel said it could not take action against the president and his administration at this time. The court noted that if agencies implement the executive order in ways that violate federal law or the Constitution, plaintiffs can seek prompt relief. Judges on the D.C. Circuit panel were Patricia Millett, Robert Wilkins and Gregory Katsas. Solicitor General D. John Sauer told the Supreme Court that an injunction would irreparably harm the government because ordinary appellate relief might not be possible before the November election. The panel also refused to consider post-appeal developments.
