Fiesta Sports Foundation opens applications for 'Wishes for Teachers' grant program

The Fiesta Sports Foundation has opened applications for its 11th annual Wishes for Teachers program, awarding grants to Arizona K-12 teachers and supporting students this year with $1.75 million. The foundation says 500 teachers will receive $2,500 grants for classroom use. Public and charter school teachers in Arizona can apply, with applications due by the end of September. Winners are chosen through a lottery. Physical education teacher Wendy Ramos, who has won three times, previously used the grant to buy fitness equipment and heart rate monitors for more than 200 freshman girls. Program leaders say teachers can apply annually and the funding helps educators make changes they otherwise can’t afford.
