Futures Wobble After AI Bloodbath As Brent Hits $114, France Braces For Moody's
Futures slipped early as markets digested the damage from Thursday’s AI-driven selloff, though oil steadied and Treasuries gave back part of a sharp rally. At 8:00am ET, S&P futures were down 0.2% to 7,687, Nasdaq futures down 0.1% to 29,100, and Dow futures down 0.6%. The prior session had seen the S&P fall 1.2% and the Nasdaq 100 drop nearly 3%, its worst day since June, even as parts of the S&P rose and a hedge-fund “VIP basket” logged its worst performance since 2011. Brent hit $114.80 and WTI $101.22 after Houthis fired another missile at Riyadh, raising geopolitical risk. The market narrative centered on OpenAI seeking a $1.25 trillion valuation for a $30 billion raise and SK Hynix scrapping Solidigm’s U.S. listing, with chips modestly higher and Kospi reversing a 4.1% plunge.
