George Lucas' film comeback is happening in a way no one saw coming
George Lucas’ return to movie audiences is taking shape in an unexpected way, with the Star Wars creator taking a voice role in the animated film “Minions & Monsters.” Lucas stepped away from Hollywood after selling Star Wars to Disney in 2012, but Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri told Collider that Lucas will appear in the Despicable Me-franchise continuation. Meledandri said he met Lucas two years earlier because Lucas “loves” Illumination’s films, and that while working on the new Minions installment they decided to include him. Meledandri described the cameo as a quick “yes” and added that Lucas is already discussing the role he wants for future Minions sequels. The report says the film centers on the Minions heading to Hollywood in the 1920s, and that Lucas’ acting credit will be his first since voicing himself in “Robot Chicken” in 2007.
