Gina Hinojosa says there's "deep disappointment in both political parties" in Texas right now
Texas Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa said Sunday that Texans feel “deep disappointment in both political parties,” arguing it is driving a new, partly “post-partisan” approach. The 52-year-old lawyer and labor and civil-rights advocate is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott, and she described bipartisan frustration around what she said Abbott has done to public schools. Hinojosa said saving Texas public schools is central to her agenda, framing her campaign as populist rather than strictly Democratic, while also citing health-care access for children and high insurance premiums. She highlighted data centers locating in rural, unincorporated areas and linked this to water and electricity concerns. Hinojosa also filed a lawsuit seeking emails between Abbott and Elon Musk, who has backed Abbott’s campaign. A CBS News poll cited Abbott leading 52% to 48%.
