Hackel: Macomb Co. continues to explore idea of Lake St. Clair hotel
Macomb County continues to explore a potential hotel and convention center on its Lake St. Clair shoreline, County Executive Mark Hackel said Wednesday during his annual State of the Lake address at MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township. Hackel described ongoing discussions with municipal leaders and said the county is looking for an investor who can make the project profitable. He noted the county has some locations in mind, but would not name them due to financial concerns. The event, supported by groups including the Macomb County Chamber and Comcast, highlighted Lake St. Clair’s economic impact: about $2.2 billion in regional benefits, more than 17 million annual visitors, and 62 marinas offering roughly 21,000 slips. Related figures also cited recreation and fishing spending and hotel room nights.
