INTERPOL cyber report is required reading for London market underwriters

INTERPOL's Asia and South Pacific Cyber Threat Assessment 2025/2026 highlights an industrialized cybercrime ecosystem with deepfakes and ransomware, urgently relevant to London market underwriters. The report notes nearly $40 billion in criminal proceeds in the region and more than 135,000 ransomware attacks in 2024. Deepfake discussions on criminal forums and Telegram channels surged about 600% between February and June 2024, while DDoS attacks rose 92% and system intrusions comprised about 80% of data breaches, with malware present in 83% and ransomware in 51%. For London insurers, the findings inform pricing, aggregation and policy language. The five most prevalent infostealer families in the region are RedLine Stealer, LummaC2, Loki, Negasteal and ZBot; LummaC2, the world’s largest infostealer, was disrupted in May 2025 by Europol, Microsoft and Japan’s Cybercrime Control Centre, though the ecosystem persists.
