JPJ temporarily suspends approval for Chery Omoda 5
Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has temporarily suspended approval for the Chery Omoda 5 after a viral incident in which part of the vehicle fell onto the road. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) certificates for the model will be suspended, delaying new registrations while a technical investigation is carried out to identify potential safety risks. The action will target models and variants possibly involved. Chery Malaysia must identify potentially affected vehicles using part numbers, production batches, VINs and other technical parameters, and carry out a recall with inspections and corrective actions. JPJ will also audit production lines, assembly processes and axle suppliers, focusing on compliance, weld inspections, quality control and component safety standards.
