Killed In Northern Germany Shooting, Police Say
A New York state aid package aims to cushion farmers affected by Donald Trump’s tariffs, with applications opening for relief payments. On Monday, Governor Kathy Hochul said the $30 million “Agricultural Resiliency Against Tariffs Program” will begin accepting applications for up to $25,000 per producer. Hochul framed the tariffs as harmful to agricultural producers, citing measures including a global 10% tariff and retaliatory tariffs on China after Beijing targeted U.S. soybean exports. The program is funded through the state budget and will provide direct payments starting at $1,000 for eligible producers, covering dairy, livestock, specialty crops and aquaculture. Hochul’s office reported higher annual expenses averaging $20,000 for New York farmers, as grain and feed imports became costlier. The article also notes a North Dakota State University study estimating tariffs on farmer input costs generated about $958 million in federal revenue between February and October last year. It adds that parts of the tariff regime were deemed illegal earlier this year by the U.S. Supreme Court.
