Kylian Mbappe condemns Paraguayan senator over racist remarks
Kylian Mbappe condemns Paraguayan senator over racist remarks reports that France forward Kylian Mbappé condemned Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after Paraguay’s World Cup Round of 16 loss to France. Mbappé criticized Amarilla from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party on X, calling her “despicable” and “unworthy” to serve in Congress, after she made racist comments following Mbappé’s winning penalty on Saturday. France advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Morocco on Thursday. Amarilla later posted an open letter in French and Spanish, saying she targeted Mbappé personally rather than France, that she deleted her post, and that she regretted the “same insults” she had faced as a mixed-race person, while also demanding an apology and threatening legal action. The Paraguayan government condemned her remarks as contrary to national values, while the French Football Federation referred the matter to prosecutors and Macron and sports minister Marina Ferrari expressed support for Mbappé.
