Labs in progressives' sights if Democrats win House

Rep. Greg Casar says progressive Democrats want aggressive scrutiny of AI labs if Democrats win control of the House next week. Speaking to POLITICO, the two-term Texas Democrat and chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus said party leaders should bring in CEOs from major AI companies and “grill them” on risks to Americans. Casar said he is open to using subpoenas to compel executive testimony and that oversight and hearings should be a priority for the caucus in a Democratic-controlled chamber. While progressives may lead the push, he said they won’t be alone in holding Big Tech accountable.
