Lancashire prepper says stockpiling is 'a way of life'
Mike Chappell, un “prepper” de Burnley, Lancashire, says more people are now taking stockpiling seriously after the government urged Brits to prepare for emergencies by keeping around three days of food and water. Writing that guidance as a “good starting point,” Chappell said he recommends no less than 30 days, and that he and his family have supplies for 90 days. The advice was issued on 22 October, with Defense Secretary Wes Streeting saying people should stockpile for events including cyber attacks or extreme weather, including three litres of water per person per day, canned food and battery-powered torches. Chappell credits headlines about oil, food and drought for shifting attitudes, and said he keeps supplies and backup power at home, plus an emergency radio and solar panels.
