Ledger Unveils $849 Atom Device To Secure Crypto, Apps And AI Activity
Ledger has unveiled Atom, a new device aimed at approving sensitive digital activity while running everyday apps. The Founders Edition is priced at a $849 reservation, with shipping estimated for 2027. Rather than another USB-shaped hardware wallet, Atom resembles a smartphone but is designed as a dedicated approval device. Ledger says Atom combines an app environment based on Android open-source software with Ledger OS on a separate secure chip. When an action requires approval, the secure operating system takes control of the display for verification. The company positions the architecture for crypto transactions, online identity, and interactions with AI agents, adding privacy controls for the camera and microphone. The launch follows scrutiny over hardware-wallet supply chains and tampered reseller devices.
