Lot to be proud of': Canada ousted from World Cup with 3-0 loss to Morocco

Canada’s World Cup exit, following a 3-0 defeat to Morocco in the round of 16, ended a historic run in the tournament. After reaching the knockout stage for the first time, the Canadian men’s national team finished Saturday in Houston without a win or point in its earlier men’s World Cup appearances being repeated. Morocco entered as the higher-ranked side at No. 7, while Canada was No. 30. Canada controlled early play, creating four first-half chances, but was unable to beat Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono). Despite the loss, Canada outshot Morocco 4-1 and led 2-1 in shots on target, while Morocco scored after a booking for a bad tackle at 50 minutes. Morocco next plays the winner of Paraguay vs France on July 9 in Boston.
