The breach touching more than 3 million Texas hunting and fishing license holders underscores escalating data-security risks in state agencies. TPWD said an unauthorized actor may have accessed customer data, including driver license information, passport numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, and residential addresses. The incident did not expose Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or financial information such as credit card details. Agency officials stressed the seriousness and noted steps to strengthen safeguards while cooperating with the license system vendor and Texas Cyber Command. Texas Cyber Command detected the incident, which involved the vendor handling hunting and fishing license sales across multiple county systems.

Affected customers are offered one year of free credit monitoring through Kroll. Recipients are urged to review credit reports, freeze their credit with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and place a one-year fraud alert if desired. They are advised to avoid suspicious links and to contact the toll-free number (844) 959-7123 for guidance. The agency pledged ongoing collaboration with its vendor to strengthen access controls. No evidence suggests customers under 18 were affected, and updates will come as investigations progress.
