Major hedge funds targeted in wave of attempted cyberattacks
xCruzo Brief
Major hedge funds on Wall Street are facing a wave of attempted cyberattacks, according to people familiar with the matter. Point72 Asset Management said it was attacked on Wednesday, with initial indications that no client information was stolen, and the firm is still reviewing the incident. The attackers also attempted to infiltrate other major hedge funds, including Two Sigma Investments and Citadel, as well as several private equity firms. The campaign used vishing, or voice phishing, to mimic voices in calls or messages and trick employees into revealing sensitive information or granting access. Two Sigma said it thwarted the attempt and saw no impact to its systems.
