Marietta superintendent uses bonus to help students pay college application fees
xCruzo Brief
Marietta High School student Ellen Gbolade says college applications can quickly add up, including a $15 fee per school and $30 for just two submissions. To help students move past that barrier, Marietta City Schools Superintendent Grant Rivera is using his bonus to cover application costs. Rivera said Marietta High has one of the highest rates of student homelessness in metro Atlanta, and that an $85 fee could prevent high-achieving students from taking the next step. The district expects a final count of assisted students soon, and any remaining money will go to the Marietta Schools Foundation.
