Mastercard Launches Tools for Banks to Build Digital Wallets in Existing Apps
Mastercard launched Wallet Services tools enabling banks and fintechs to add contactless payments inside existing iOS and Android apps. The service supports cross-platform development without managing separate integrations or EMVCo certifications, and includes software development kits plus a Secure Element applet. Mastercard said it also connects with its Mastercard Digital Enablement Service for tokenisation. The move follows Apple expanding third-party access to iPhone near-field communication in more markets, addressing a limitation that previously made it harder for developers to offer similar wallet experiences across both ecosystems. Mastercard is working with partner banks to build new wallet features, with some expected in selected markets by the end of 2026. The service is available in more than 200 countries and territories using Mastercard Digital Enablement Service, with iOS introduced where third-party NFC access is enabled, including the United States and the UK.
