Microsoft looks to reboot the AI PC with Nvidia
Microsoft is launching Surface Ultra, a high-end laptop aimed at running demanding AI workloads locally rather than relying only on the cloud. Unveiled in San Francisco alongside Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and former White House AI official Sriram Krishnan, the device is powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip and starts at $2,599. Microsoft previewed the laptop in June but previously withheld key details such as price and exact availability. The company says Surface Ultra—and Nvidia-powered laptops from partners including Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo—will be available starting Oct. 16. On the software side, Microsoft demonstrated a version of Copilot that can use local models alongside cloud models, and it announced that Meta’s Muse personal agent is coming to Windows. The push follows a rocky start for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PCs after the delayed Recall feature.
