Microsoft, Nvidia push AI agents onto personal computers
Microsoft is pushing AI agents deeper into personal computers, unveiling an AI coding model that can run locally and new technology to keep agents from accessing data without permission. The company also showcased a new Nvidia-chip-powered laptop as it aims to turn Windows into a platform for agent-based tools that can write code without always relying on the cloud. At an event in San Francisco, Microsoft said it will release Microsoft Execution Containers to restrict agents’ actions and prevent unauthorized tasks on desktop and laptop machines. CEO Satya Nadella said the goal is making the desktop the most secure place for agents to run. The plan is part of a bet that some work now done in Microsoft’s costly Azure data centers can shift to Windows PCs in business and home settings, competing with Apple’s parallel push.
