Musk Collects R40 Billion A Month In AI Rent From Google And Anthropic
Musk is earning about R40 billion per month from AI compute “rent” arranged through SpaceX, according to the report. Anthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion (R22.9 billion) each month for three years for GPU capacity at the Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, with access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and over 300 megawatts of compute. The deal, signed in May, reportedly begins under the terms described, while Google later signed a lease for $920 million (R16.8 billion) per month starting October through June 2029 for roughly 110,000 GPUs. Together, the two contracts total $2.17 billion (R39.7 billion) monthly, or about $26 billion (R476 billion) annually—more than SpaceX’s full 2025 revenue of $18.67 billion (R341.7 billion). The report links the demand to chip, power, and data center constraints on Earth, and notes SpaceX acquired xAI in February and went public in June. It also references SpaceX’s FCC filing for up to one million satellites in an Orbital Data Center system, targeting launches by 2028.
