NASA seeks industry input for next-generation Kennedy Space Center operations contract
NASA is seeking industry input on its planned Spaceport Infrastructure, Maintenance, and Operations (SIMO) contract, which would replace the current Base Operations and Spaceport Services (BOSS) contract at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. A sources-sought notice indicates performance could begin no earlier than April 2027, with NASA shifting end-to-end engineering responsibility for facilities, systems, and utilities in-house. The SIMO approach aims to support more than 30 customers across roughly 220 square miles of KSC and CCSFS. The contract would cover about 900 facilities and a broad suite of systems, including high- and medium-voltage electrical, uninterruptible power supplies, electronic security systems, traffic signaling, oxygen-deficiency monitoring, fire detection and suppression, HVAC, water and wastewater, elevators, transportation assets, heavy equipment, and facility structures. It also encompasses operation and maintenance of SCADA and multiple building automation systems, plus logistics services such as supply and materials management and equipment handling. NASA describes SIMO as a major shift toward in-house engineering and spaceport integration to improve efficiency and resilience for government and commercial space activity.
