Samsung plans $1.5B chip testing plant in Vietnam by 2027

Samsung Electronics is investing $1.5 billion to expand its semiconductor testing capacity in Vietnam, signaling a strategic push amid AI-driven demand. Construction is underway in Thai Nguyen province, with commercial operations targeted for November 2027. The facility, valued at about 39 trillion Vietnamese dong, will specialize in memory chip testing, addressing a well–documented bottleneck as AI workloads increase. Samsung is the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with investments exceeding $23 billion and roughly 90,000 employees nationwide. The company has previously discussed up to $4 billion for phased packaging operations in the region, as it diversifies its global supply chain alongside rivals and peers. This expansion complements fabrication in Korea and the United States, reinforcing resilience in the broader memory-chip ecosystem.
