AI places the Philippines at a strategic crossroads, forcing the country to rethink how automation will reshape its outsourcing backbone. The sector—spanning contact centers, back-office operations, financial services, and shared services—employs nearly two million Filipinos and accounts for more than 8% of GDP. A February 2026 Capital Economics AI Economic Impact Index ranks the Philippines 43rd out of 47 countries with a score of 21 out of 100, the lowest among ASEAN peers. The National AI & Skills Summit, organized by Viventis in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, will convene CEOs, policymakers, tech innovators, and educators to chart an AI-ready Philippines. Industry leaders warn that competition is accelerating and the country must shift toward AI-enabled, human-in-the-loop service delivery that leverages Filipino judgment, oversight, and domain expertise.

Projected scale underscores urgency: the IT-BPM sector is forecast to generate about $42 billion in revenues and employ roughly 1.97 million people by the end of 2026. Nearly half of BPO firms have already embedded AI, and more than 70% aim for high AI maturity by 2028. IBPAP has pledged at least $25 million annually for skills development to future-proof the workforce. The Philippines faces regional competition, with Singapore highlighting AI as a growth centerpiece as nations accelerate their digital agendas. The transition from labor arbitrage to AI-enabled human oversight will determine whether the Philippines sustains its outsourcing leadership or cedes ground to automation.
