Nigeria’s Army approved appointments of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for newly created Army divisions as the force expands its command structure to strengthen operations across the country. The changes follow President Bola Tinubu’s approval of four additional divisions on 23 July, moving the Army from eight divisions to 12. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, said the new formations would begin operations immediately after achieving initial operational capability, and work toward full operational capability. Announcements were made by Colonel Appolonia Anele on the Army’s official X account on Wednesday, 29 July. The updated divisional areas include Kaduna (1), Ibadan (2), Jos (3), Makurdi-based 5, and others.
