North Korean-linked hackers stole more than $6.3 billion from Binance in one of the largest crypto thefts to date, according to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs. The attack occurred on October 29, taking control of funds spread across 10 blockchain networks within about 20 minutes. TRM Labs said the group TraderTraitor—believed to have backing from the North Korean government—carried out the operation. On Ethereum, the attackers exploited a mechanism tied to the EIP-7702 standard to convert a Binance hot wallet into a smart contract under their control. Blockchain analytics firms, token issuers and networks froze around $2.7 billion, but hackers still reportedly hold about $2.4 billion.
