Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in MediaTek through convertible bonds, announced Aug. 31 and first reported by Bloomberg. The deal is designed to deepen Nvidia’s presence in the AI data-center systems that will run next-generation workloads. MediaTek will adopt Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion interconnect and NVHBM high-bandwidth memory technology, allowing customers’ custom AI accelerator chips to plug directly into Nvidia-dominated racks and share memory and networking with fewer integration hurdles. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the arrangement is not “circular” and explained the companies operate separately while building together. The pact expands earlier Nvidia partnerships and comes alongside MediaTek’s record $3.9 billion convertible offering.
