A spill from the U.K.-sanctioned tanker Caroline Bezengi, grounded off Oman for weeks, appears to be rapidly expanding, with satellite imagery reviewed by The Associated Press showing new shoreline and open-sea impacts. Greenpeace Germany said Monday that images from the prior day suggest the oil now covers about 150 square kilometers (58 square miles) near Qibliyah Island in Dhofar, up from an estimated 20 square kilometers (8 miles) a week earlier. The sheen reportedly extends roughly 90 kilometers long and has reached thick black patches on the island’s southern and western shores. The 274-meter Suezmax is said to have carried over 800,000 barrels. Owners were ordered to remove the ship and cargo by July 23.
