Own a gun? Go to church? Do yoga? AI can find out in seconds.
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have seen demonstrations of AI systems that can rapidly generate dossiers about ordinary Americans, and the exposure is alarming them. According to the article, staffers from dozens of congressional offices reviewed instant profiles created by CivAI, a nonprofit focused on warning about AI’s dangers and capabilities. The demos reportedly compiled personal details sourced from commercial databases, including leaked email password examples tied to a gun store owner, church-related activity, yoga workouts, and visits to abortion clinics. Staffers also say the dossiers included suggestions for potential blackmail, coercion or stalking. The demos come amid debate over whether to renew government spying powers that expired in June.
