A report says Apple’s next-generation M7 Ultra chips for AI servers, expected in 2029, could challenge NVIDIA’s top performance. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing in the Power On newsletter, reportedly claims Apple is accelerating the transition from the M6 lineup to the M7 family due to major neural-processing upgrades. Gurman also says the M7 Ultra, described as Apple’s high-end processor for next year, is close to NVIDIA’s Blackwell, and could support up to 1.5 terabytes of memory—double the capacity planned for the M5 Ultra. The chip is also said to be a foundation for the next generation of Apple AI servers, code-named J246, targeted for 2029. The report adds that Apple has started developing M8-series chips with more AI capability, using a 1.4nm manufacturing process and debuting in 2028. Separately, Apple launched 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max this March, and the M5 Ultra is expected to appear in a Mac Studio later this year with up to 768GB of RAM.
