Revolut hackers stole nearly 700 customers' private data

Hackers behind a major breach at Revolut stole nearly 700 customers’ private data, City AM reports. Revolut has contacted 680 affected people after what it described as a “sophisticated” impersonation scam. The exposed information includes identity documents, postal and email addresses, facial verification images, and phone numbers. The hacking group, calling itself Revolut Smilik, confirmed to City AM that it is seeking payment from Revolut and warned it will release more data each day if it doesn’t pay. Revolut said it was targeted through a “sophisticated external impersonation scam” in which attackers used a legitimate government agency email to submit fraudulent information requests. The fintech added that its core infrastructure, databases and customer accounts were not compromised, and it alerted regulators and enforcement agencies. The FCA and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office said they are engaging and assessing the reported impact.
