Rights groups say Israeli attack that killed Lebanese journalist an apparent war crime

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International said an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that killed al-Akhbar reporter Amal Khalil and seriously wounded freelance camera operator Zeinab Faraj appears to be an apparent war crime. The groups concluded that the journalists were targeted while reporting in the town of al-Tiri on 22 April. Both called for an independent investigation and for Lebanon to accept the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. The Israeli military denied targeting journalists, telling the BBC its three strikes were aimed at two Hezbollah operatives. HRW said it reviewed photo and video evidence, witness testimony, media reports, and a message from the Lebanese Red Cross. Its reconstruction cited three strikes at about 14:30, between 15:21 and 15:42, and around 16:25, with drones reportedly monitoring the attack.
