Ryan Chiaverini explored Route 66 in Chandler, Oklahoma, for ABC7 Chicago’s series “Pier To Pier: Celebrating 100 Years of Route 66,” and navigated using the EZ66 Guide For Travelers instead of faster GPS apps. The “Mother Road” often favors slow travel, with its bends through small towns and older alignments. In Chandler, Chiaverini met the guide’s author and illustrator, Jerry McClanahan, who said he started the project after wanting to recapture memories of childhood trips from Southern California to Arkansas. He researched the route in depth and published the first edition of EZ66 in 2005; the guide is now in its sixth edition as Route 66 marks its centennial.
