Seized oil tanker reappears with new identity after leaving Scottish waters

The seized oil tanker has reappeared in the Caribbean under a new identity, illustrating how enforcement actions can lead to shifts in vessel branding. The Marinera, a Russian-flagged tanker previously named Bella 1, was seized on January 7 in a Coast Guard and Navy operation after a lengthy chase from the Caribbean across the North Atlantic. MarineTraffic data shows the ship switched off its tracking after being seen anchored off Burghead in the Moray Firth in February, then reappeared on April 24 in the Gulf of Mexico and is now sailing around Aruba under the name Era. When track data resumed, the vessel was observed just outside Galveston, near Houston, with May records placing it in the same area and listed as "conducting trials."
