Some Pennsylvania utility customers can get cash and free pickup for old appliances
PPL Electric Utilities is launching an appliance recycling offer for customers in eastern and central Pennsylvania, paying for eligible old equipment and providing free pickup. The program offers rebates worth up to $35 per full-size refrigerator or freezer, while mini fridges, room air conditioners, and dehumidifiers qualify for $15 each. Participants with an active PPL Electric account can potentially stack multiple appliances into a single pickup visit. The incentives run through May 31, 2031, and the utility says customers may also receive additional discounts for Energy Star replacements, including up to $75 toward an Energy Star refrigerator. To qualify, units must be working, emptied, clean, defrosted, and between 10 and 30 cubic feet, with a cap of seven large appliances per customer for the program’s life. The company says about 95% of materials are recovered for reuse rather than sent to landfill.
