Taipei Times reports that Taiwan’s Executive Yuan approved next year a 4% pay raise across the board for military personnel, civil servants, and public school teachers, affecting about 720,000 people. The proposal also increases professional stipends and supervisory allowances by a flat NT$2,000, bringing the overall raise to 11.56% for supervisors and 9.98% for general staff. The allowance increase takes effect retroactively from Wednesday and will be financed through a supplementary budget, while the salary increase will be funded through Taiwan’s fiscal 2027 general budget, according to the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration. Premier Cho Jung-tai said the package aims to support lower-ranking staff, encourage managerial roles, reflect economic growth, rising consumer prices, and steady gains in private-sector and minimum wages. Teacher unions and ten others issued a joint statement acknowledging the review intent, but called the increase too conservative and urged a more formal system for regular adjustments.
