Takes more than a year to recover from cyber-attack as profits bounce back to £355m
xCruzo Brief
Marks & Spencer says the fallout from a cyberattack that shut down its website more than a year ago continued to weigh on clothing sales over the summer. The retailer reported profits of £355m in the six months to 26 September, up sharply from £3.4m a year earlier as it partially recovered from the attack. The incident began over Easter 2025 and forced the online store for clothing and homewares to close for more than six weeks. While overall sales rose 16.2% to £9.2bn, M&S said clothing and homewares sales and profit remained below two years ago due to constrained availability from longer manual ordering processes and cost pressure from higher fulfillment costs on online mix.
