Teacher charged over creating explicit child images with AI
Teacher charged over creating explicit child images with AI reports criminal charges against a teacher accused of using AI to generate explicit images involving children. The article says Robert John Thomas, 73, a former teacher at A.B. Paterson College in Arundel on Australia’s Gold Coast, was arrested on Thursday after being fired and after a police investigation launched in October of the previous year. Prosecutors allege he used his work laptop and AI software to create explicit images depicting both children and adults. Thomas has been charged with making and possessing child exploitation material, misuse of a restricted computer, and possessing/controlling child abuse material. He is scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on August 6. The principal Joanne Sheehy said the school notified Queensland police and cooperated fully, while Queensland’s Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort described the misuse of AI for child exploitation as a serious criminal offence.
