Tech workers who don’t embrace AI face triple the layoff risk, Gallup finds: Gallup reported that U.S. tech workers who do not use AI regularly face a much higher predicted layoff risk than peers. Based on a February survey of more than 23,000 workers, including 660 who were unemployed after job elimination, Gallup estimated that workers who use AI at least monthly face about a 6% predicted layoff probability, versus 18% for less frequent users. Gallup analyzed usage frequency from daily to none, and applied statistical modeling to link AI-use patterns and industry with job-loss likelihood. The association held even after accounting for age, education, and sector, suggesting less frequent AI users are more vulnerable. Gallup also noted that executives’ downsizing narratives differ: only about 1% of laid-off workers said AI directly caused their job loss, while Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported companies citing AI as about 40% of monthly job-cut announcements.
